Indeks utama saham Amerika Serikat alias Wall Street ditutup anjlok pada perdagangan Rabu (18/10), imbas kenaikan imbal hasil Treasury AS.
Mengutip Reuters, Kamis (19/10) Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI) turun 0,98 persen menjadi 33.665,08, S&P 500 (.SPX) kehilangan 1,34 persen menjadi 4.314,6 dan Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC) turun 1,62 persen menjadi 13.314,30.
Di sisi lain, meningkatnya ketegangan di Timur Tengah memicu penghindaran risiko. Emas safe-haven mencapai level tertinggi dalam lebih dari dua bulan. Indeks Volatilitas Cboe (.VIX) yang merupakan ukuran ketakutan Wall Street, melonjak.
Imbal hasil (yield) naik tipis setelah data menunjukkan pembangunan perumahan keluarga tunggal di AS meningkat kembali pada bulan September. Mendukung pandangan bahwa Federal Reserve akan mempertahankan suku bunga lebih tinggi untuk jangka waktu lebih lama.
“Kita berada dalam periode rotasi sektor, dan orang-orang mencoba mencari tahu dalam lingkungan baru ini – dengan pengaturan ulang suku bunga secara menyeluruh – saham apa saja yang akan terus berkinerja baik dan saham apa sajakah yang akan terus berkinerja baik? itu yang akan menderita,” kata Analis dari Cherry Lane Investments, Rick Meckler.

“Jelas, perusahaan-perusahaan yang memiliki leverage tinggi mengalami kesulitan dalam pasar seperti ini," tambahnya.
Adapun, imbal hasil yang lebih tinggi dari Treasury AS yang bebas risiko mengurangi daya tarik saham.
"Investor juga khawatir mengenai dampak konflik Israel-Hamas yang dimulai pada 7 Oktober dengan serangan Hamas terhadap warga sipil dan tentara Israel," tulis laporan itu.
Dalam catatan Reuters, Rabu kemarin Presiden AS Joe Biden menjanjikan solidaritas dengan Israel dan mengatakan ledakan mematikan di sebuah rumah sakit Gaza tampaknya disebabkan oleh roket yang salah ditembakkan oleh militan.
